Outdoor dining and sipping colorfully decorated cocktails till late in the evenings as the sun sets is one thing we can all look forward to in the hot summer months. There is nothing more magical than sitting along with the beachfront watching families, couples, and all sorts of beautiful people walk past and enjoying Mother Nature in all her glory and picturesque colors unwillingly sink away into the distance.
Summer makes us feel good, we get to unwind, soak up the sun’s rays, and feeling great is always a good look, especially if it matches your bronzed skin from the day’s events. Pair it with a great outfit and you have a winning combination.
Looking and feeling good
It’s been a long day, you and hubby decide to sit outside and dine al fresco for a change, there is not a breath of wind and the silence of the neighborhood is calming. The string lights glisten against the moonshine, you see the odd sparkle of the fireflies dancing among the trees and bushes, and you are feeling good.
What you didn’t expect was to be paid a compliment on top of it all with your other half noticing how lovely you look in the new and experimental summer outfit that suits you to a tee. You forgot what you were wearing but this drop shoulder top does have a certain appeal to it, an effortless sophistication, and it is always nice to have it noticed.
Feeling good in your clothes is not as tricky as you may think. Sure new fashions and items coming out all the time and trying something new may just be the ‘spice to your rice’ as the saying goes to keep the fire lit in your life and relationship. Partners appreciate the effort you make to look good, and it is especially nice when they mention it, win-win.
The meaning behind the clothes
What does fashion mean, is it about being in the latest and most up-to-date couture, or the complete opposite and expressing your bold personality with flamboyant garments and colors? There is no right or wrong answer, nor can someone tell you what is or isn’t fashionable, it is up to preference and that is perfectly acceptable.
Of course, there are the book nerds who believe everything can be put into a definition and fashion is no different, see the detailed version of its meaning here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion, but it still doesn’t mean we need to make ourselves fit into the society-projected cookie-cutter molds we see flooding social media platforms.
You have one life and if you try to do nothing but ‘fit in,’ it may be a long one but it certainly won’t be a happy one. Always try to be your authentic self you are beautiful in your way.
What clothes and styles mean to people
Why certain people wear clothes in a specific style or way may not be what it looks like on the surface, there are plenty of reasons why we choose to dress ourselves the way we do, let’s look at what some of those are and why.
- Emotional. Sometimes in life, it is more about the subconscious and how something made us feel at a particular time in our lives. This is brought up by seeing specific items you may have worked on when you were younger and you felt great and so you tend to stick with one style for the majority of your life to always try to feel like that. You have an emotional connection to an era and the style thereof.
- Fear. This is high on the list because it is more common than we realize or want to admit. We are afraid of the unknown, the unfamiliar, and changing a style or look can cause some people anxiety. Fear of change is experienced by all of us at some points and in varying degrees. Be brave. You are you for a reason and no one can take that away from you.
- Exposure. It does its job, those clever ad campaigns you see rolling on the banner board along the highway have penetrated your mind and your purchase was based on what you see daily without thinking about it. The more you see it the more comfortable you get with it and then take it on board with a positive approach.
A very interesting article in this link shows us how images can change your mind and perspective. It can be strong and impactful and could change the course of life events as we know it, fashion and clothing have come a long way since our parents were kids.
- Occupation. Your style could be influenced by your job, where you work, or the type of work you do. For example, a top-tier manager will more than likely wear smart casual on weekends as opposed to joggers and a crumpled t-shirt, but a chef may enjoy the freedom to let loose and walk around in only swim shorts all day not worrying about covering up arms and legs to prevent burns.
A final thought
At the end of the day what you wear doesn’t change who you are on the inside, if you enjoy dressing up then why not, if you like to fade into the background and simply observe then so be it, the main objective is to be comfortable in your clothes and your skin. Be yourself.
